Focus on Prayer

Prayer is the essence of our relationship with God. We recently took a whole day to teach our students about prayer and invited them to participate in different activities. We prayed for each other, the teachers and the project. It was a beautiful time.
Silvia
Silvia is recovering from major surgery and will be away from The University of Life for a couple of months. Please pray for her as she rests and heals which is difficult for her as there is nowhere she would rather be than at the project!

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13.
Focus on presenting
As we draw to the end of our first semester this year, students are preparing for a market day where we will be making, buying and selling, homemade products. Here are some photos of the presentations our younger students made this term. They found all sorts of ways to get their points across, including by standing on their heads!

Focus on A Family
Rayson is 10 years old and in year 4. He lives with his mother and older sister.
Their home is very small and the family survives on a welfare payment of about £100 per month. The family often goes hungry and Rayson’s mother lives under tremendous pressure to provide for her children. She works as a maid where possible, but this requires long tiring days and returns very low wages.

With just one small living area the family sleeps on mattresses which are piled up in the daytime to create space.
As a result of these conditions, Rayson is small for his age and is often quiet and sad. He says that at The University of Life he feels protected and heard. When he is feeling well, he likes to help others in his class. He never misses a day.
Rayson has already thought about his future. He wants to be a police officer to protect people, an electrician, and a football player! His dream is to buy his mum a house. Rayson prays daily for God to protect his family and not let them go hungry.

Antônio’s Story

Antônio Miguel became a student at The University of Life in 2022 after being referred by a psychologist at a local clinic. The psychologist’s records indicate children who attend the project recover more quickly than other patients.
Antonio is an orphan. His mother passed away when he was a baby. He has never known his father and has been raised by his ‘Aunt Mom.’
Antônio’s aunt told us that he spent long periods in his room and was unwilling to socialize with other children. Hence, she took him to the psychologist. During his first year at the project, our teachers noticed Antônio’s difficulties. He was troubled, sad, and angry with God, who was supposed to love him, for taking away his mother.
However, after a few months, we saw positive signs of change. Antônio started to smile more and made friends with his classmates. One day, his aunt came into the reception and told us enthusiastically about the positive change she was seeing. She had found a card he had written saying, “The University of Life is where I found my happiness.” Please pray for Antônio as he continues his journey of faith and discovery at the project.
